Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow speaks at a tribute of the victims of the Orlando bombings held opposite the house of commons on June 13, 2016 in London.

The Speaker of the British House of Commons said Monday he would not invite President Donald Trump to address the UK parliament during a state visit.

In remarks in the chamber, Bercow said he was strongly opposed to inviting Trump in light of the “migrant ban” issued by the White House last month.

An address to Parliament by a foreign leader “is not an automatic right, it is an earned honor,“ Bercow said.

Members of the Labor Party applauded Bercow’s remarks while members of the Conservative Party sat in silence.
